How To: Newspaper Print Manicure

We have been obsessed with this nail trend since we found it in the beauty blogosphere! It's quick and easy, and can be used on any matte base color so you can mix up the style. For a fun twist, use a map, page from a book, or change the direction of the lines when you imprint the paper on your nails!

Step one: Base

Make sure nails are clean and dry, and that any residual polish from your last manicure is taken off. Now is the time to also do any other manicure regimens you subscribe to, as well as filing the tops of the nails either rounded or square depending on which you like.

Option: apply a clear base coat and let dry completely.

Apply two coats of matte nail polish to each nail, letting dry completely between coats. We like white, grey, or light blues for this color!

Step Two: Print

Poor a small amount of rubbing alcohol into a bowl. Prepare the newspaper you plan to use by cutting it into manageable sizes (4 inch x 4 inch squares work well, or 2 inch thick strips).

Dip your finger into the alcohol with the nail down, so that the entire nail is submerged in alcohol. Wait 15-30 seconds.

Remove nail from alcohol, and press newspaper onto nail firmly. Press back and forth to each side to make sure print covers the entire nail, without smudging the paper around the nail (this will smear the print). Gently lift paper off by pealing it from one side to the other. Let nail dry for a few seconds.

You can also do two coats of print on each nail by dipping it back into the alcohol and putting another strip onto the nail. This can create a cool criss-cross effect and give more of a graphic detail to the look.

Step Three: Coat

Once the print has dried on your nails, cover each nail with a clear protective coat to give them shine and to shield your new manicure. Let dry, and you're ready to go!
